I think Windows 10 is hands-down the most invasive operating system, by a small landslide. Never before have I been so constantly and consistently hounded about updates, right up to the point where the OS viscerally rips the controls away from me and forces the update regardless of my preference.
Honestly, Microsoft needs to calm the fuck down...
@MariBari as someone who's worked in information technology for years and has had to clean up after countless messes made by users who just refuse to update: Cry more.
You all brought this upon yourselves. You all refused to install important system updates so that you wouldn't get owned by exploits and malware, and kept blaming it on Microsoft, so now instead of taking your medicine orally you're going to be getting it rectally.

@segfault This just in: People getting malware because they haven't updated their system doesn't have anything to do with Microsoft making Windows 10 excessively annoying and invasive.
While I appreciate the attempt to completely derail my argument by bringing up your really bitter grudge against bad users who refuse to update, that's... not actually what my post is about. Sorry to disappoint.

@MariBari @segfault The problem is, everyone claims to be a good user who makes time for updates, while actually being the bad antivaxxer user who keeps deferring updates, and then Microsoft gets blamed for the resulting malware, data loss, and attacks on the internet.
In 2018, if you don't want to get a machine patched in a timely manner, disconnect it from the internet - you won't get updates pushed to it any more, and it won't be a risk to the internet. Bonus: distraction-free writing.
